How to Release Confidence

Do you ever feel like the world constantly bombards us with, “You’re just not good enough.”

I mean parents tell their kids, “If only you were more gifted.”

In school the in-group says, “You’re just not cool enough.”

Prestigious colleges say, “You’re not smart enough.”

Then as adults somehow the car we drive, the house we live in, the vacations we take, “Well they’re just not trendy enough.”

And unfortunately when we constantly compare ourselves to others we simply can’t win.  We can never measure up.  And it leaves us feeling  inferior and discouraged.

And frankly the additional tragedy of that?  It holds us back from accomplishing all we could have.  And instead leaves us just feeling empty.

So what would happen if instead of focusing on what we lack we focused everyday on who we really are?

I’ve found two focuses have done more for my confidence than anything else.

First, I’m chosen by God.  I’m special and unique.  Yeah, some would argue just unique.  But truthfully, I’ve been given a unique set of gifts and God has called me to a valuable life.  And that’s true for you as well.

So if I’m of inestimable value in God’s eyes why should I worry what someone I don’t care about thinks?

And second, I’m God’s child.  He loves me like I love my own children.

So when I go through challenges I know He is with me.  And, as I would do for my own children if I had the power, he will work it all out for good.

Paul writes, “So then, you Gentiles are not foreigners or strangers any longer; you are now fellow-citizens with God’s people and members of the family of God.”  (Ephesians 2: 19 GNT)

You’re more than good enough because God in you is more than enough.

When have you realized this?
