Living In Unconquerable Power

“Far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.”  (Ephesians 1:21 NIV)

We live in a pretty oppressive world don’t we?  I mean just watch the news for five minutes.  It’s filled with scary stuff.

Terrorists bombing civilians.

Governments targeting groups.

Corruption, crime, hatred.

And then add to that the pressures we face at work from a boss on an ego trip or a colleague clawing his way to the top.

And for some the fear of evil spirits running amok.

It’s no wonder we want to live off the radar.  Stay low so we don’t get shot.

But the problem is that keeps us from the amazing life we could live.  The one God designed for us.

This passage offers a counter perspective though.

It builds on the previous passages which told us the antidote was believing in God for his power and love.

So instead of gluing ourselves to the news glue ourselves to God’s promises.

Focus on the one in heaven holds ultimate power and wants to use it on our behalf.

Jesus is above every ruler and governmental authority.

He is above every powerful person who has his own dominion.

He is above everyone with an impressive title.

He is above every spiritual power.

Let’s see, did we leave anyone out?

And what happens when that becomes our focus?

We peak out of our foxholes.  Maybe even creep out and engage again.

We find a peace that isn’t dependent on peace in the world.

We start living the life God has for us instead of running from it in fear.

And frankly, it’s a whole lot more fun.

Any power you can think of we missed?
