Twin Steps for Igniting Spiritual Power

“That is why since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people.”  (Ephesians 1:15 NCV)

I believe we want spiritual power ignited in our lives.  Otherwise frankly you wouldn’t be reading this and I wouldn’t be writing it.

Yet, we struggle with that day to day.  Sometimes we see evidence of it and unfortunately often we don’t.

We listen to spiritual teachers and get a whole laundry list of ways to experience it.

“If you just have more faith.”

“Follow these eight steps.

“Come to Jesus.”

“Speak in tongues.”

Yet, somehow life doesn’t change.  Not really.  Oh, maybe for a moment but then the same old butts in again.

Yet, this verse shows us the twins of spiritual power.

First faith that God is real and Jesus is who he said he was.  That connects us to the only one who can give us that power.  We don’t give it to ourselves.

Second, believing that God will give us his promises exactly how he promised them.  Not necessarily how we would instruct God to give them, though.

Third, when we have that kind of faith we still need to go out and live.  And if we believe God is taking care of us then the only true outward expression of that faith is selfless love.

Fourth, the Bible helps guide our love.  Love can be tricky.  It can get all tangled up with emotion and misdirect into something that seems like love but really isn’t.

That’s it.  Pretty straight forward.

Yet, tough to do consistently.  At least for me.

But the good news?   God gives us his Spirit to help us have faith and live in love.

See he wants us to experience his spiritual power more than even we want to.

And that’s pretty amazing!
