Craziness!

“Yes, in the past you lived the way the world lives, following the ruler of the evil powers that are above the earth. That same spirit is now working in those who refuse to obey God.”  (Ephesians 2: 2 NCV)

I’m sure you’ve heard the famous definition of insanity, “Continuing to do the same things and expecting a different result.”

Just take a look around if you want to see insanity.  Rampant divorce, epidemic depression, cratering health, prescription drug sales reaching new highs.

And this in the most affluent society in history.

I asked someone recently how they were doing and they responded, “I’m doing.”

I hate that.  Yet, he gave me the honest answer.

But suggest changing?  The automatic response will be, “I’m just doing what everybody else does.”

And terrifyingly?   Many Christians don’t answer any different.

This is craziness!

So what’s the answer?

Paul writes, “In the past you lived in this craziness, but you made a choice to live there no longer.”

And we need to as well.  If we live the same way the rest of this crazy world lives yet expect a different result, then who’s really insane?

But how do we live differently?

A few quick suggestions to program our minds in a new way so we live in a new way.

Get involved in a church where you hear God’s word.

Fellowship with friends who are believers so you can help each other.

Read your Bible for a few minutes each day.

Turn off the TV and read a good biblically based book that helps your spirituality.

Not rocket science.  Yet frankly, for most people just those steps will revolutionize their lives.

Truly with a different input we will see a different output.
