Protection From All Who Threaten

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a fortress in times of trouble.” (Psalm 9: 9)

The powerful may threaten but God’s fortress won’t be broken.

Father,

Sometimes I feel afraid of the powerful who threaten me,

Yet, I know inside your fortress they can never touch me.

Forgive me for the fear of focusing on their threats instead of your protection,

Open your gates so I may live in your fortress continually,

Protect me with your power that is greater than all others.

Amen

Finding Peace When Life Seems Unfair

The Lord rules the world with righteousness and brings fairness to all people.” (Psalm 9: 8)

Life may seem unfair at times but God brings fairness where there is none.

Lord,

Sometimes it seems like life is so unfair,

Yet, you promise you will make it fair.

Help me to rest knowing you are not resting,

Give me your peace knowing you make all things right,

Let me see you win so I don’t need to strive to.

Amen

The Way to Discover Joy

“I will be glad and rejoice, and sing praises to you, Most High God.” (Psalm 9: 2)

Weariness may come in the night but joy comes through praise in the morning.

Lord,

I praise you for all of your amazing blessings,

Far beyond all I could imagine or even ask.

When I become overwhelmed from the challenges,

Help me instead to focus on your gifts,

And in place of discouragement fill my heart with praise.

Amen

Unconquerable Power for When You Feel Powerless

“Lord, our Lord, your name is the greatest in all the earth.” (Psalm 8: 9)

You may feel powerless but God’s power is unmatched.

Lord,

Thank you that in those times I feel powerless,

You show me most clearly your unconquerable power.

Bring your power into my powerlessness,

Let me see your power in all your greatness,

Help me rest in peace confident not in my power but yours.

Amen

All Creation is Yours to Enjoy

“Lord, you have made us rulers over all the works of your creation and given us the charge to rule them wisely.” (Psalm 8: 6)

God has given us all of his creation to enjoy and to rule wisely.

Father,

Thank you for the beauty and wonder of your creation,

That reminds me of your greatness and love.

Help me to rule it with wisdom,

Be reminded of your awesome power,

And be filled with the comfort of your love.

Amen

Live Confident in Your Greatness

“Lord, you have made mankind only a little lower than yourself and crowned them with glory and honor.” (Psalm 8: 5)

When you begin to feel inferior look through God’s eyes at your greatness.

Lord,

Thank you that you have created me in your image,

And filled me with the glory and honor only you can give.

When I doubt my worth help me to look through your eyes,

To see the glory and honor you have given me,

And to live confidently in it every moment.

Amen

The Reminder of God’s Greatness and Love

“When I look at the heavens, moon and stars, which you created, I am amazed that you know and care for me.” (Psalm 8: 3-4)

Out of all God’s creations he truly loves only one.  Us.

Lord,

When I look at your whole creation I am filled with awe at your power,

And comfort in realizing your know and love me.

When I begin to doubt help me to see,

When I begin to fear help me to remember,

When I am faced with challenges create your answers.

Amen

The Children Will Lead Us

“Through the praise of children and infants, you overcome your enemies and silence your foes.” (Psalm 8: 2)

When we listen to the praise of the children we silence the curses of the critics.

Father,

Thank you that in the praises of children we may be encouraged,

That the doubting words of the critics are silenced by the simple faith of the pure.

Help me to listen more to children and less to critics,

Fill me with childlike faith and wonder,

And the pure joy only children possess.

Amen

The Cure for Doubt

“Lord, you have filled the heavens with your glory.” (Psalm 8: 1)

Some moments may be filled with doubt until you truly see all of God’s glory.

Lord,

I praise you that you have filled the heavens and earth with your splendor,

That in those times I might have doubt all I need to do is see.

Help me to look with eyes that see you,

Fill me with the joy of your glorious creation,

And faith in you who created everything.

Amen

Glorious Light in the Darkness

“Lord, our Lord, how glorious are you through out all the earth.” (Psalm 8: 1)

In the darkness God’s light shines brightest.

Lord,

Thank you that you shine your light into my deepest darkness,

That no matter how black the night your sunrise always brightens the day,

Fill my life with your light,

Give your sunrise to brighten my night,

Help me to walk, each day, in the warmth of your sunshine.

Amen
